Sad Red Cat, 2025. The Port of Kochi Series. Mixed media: graphite and fluorescent acrylic on pieced colored cardboard Diptych (Left: daylight, Right: UV light) 59 x 42 cm / 23.2 x 16.5 in This painting selected for Artiade 2026 – Olympics of Art (In this international competition, the jury votes anonymously with all artist signatures removed, ensuring a selection based purely on the quality of the work). Since mid-2019, I've been working exclusively with fluorescent paints. All my recent paintings have two states: natural light and UV light. I use a UV flashlight to adjust the glow of the fluorescent paints. Our visual perception is tied to the standards we're accustomed to. Standard lighting suggests that only a highly harmonious combination of paints makes a strong impression on us. Fluorescent paints under UV light appear unconventional to our eyes. And if we add a creative approach, a new result of visual harmony is possible.
